What I'm Thankful For- A Personal Post

Thanksgiving in my favorite holiday and has been since I was a child. I love the family togetherness. I love the endless amounts of food. And I love that this holiday is about being thankful.

Here's what I'm thankful for:

1) The hope that I've found in Jesus. I know myself, and I know that I will never be good enough for God. I'm so thankful that He's made a way for me to forever be with Him through the death and resurrection of Jesus. I'm so thankful for the hope that He will one day make all things right.

2) My super incredible husband (aka. Mr. Wonderful) and the three kids who have stolen my heart. My husband is the most supportive and caring person and I am so, so thankful for him. I couldn't have asked for more precious children and I thank God every day that He continues to let me care for them.

3) My parents who are my constant figurative (and occasionally literal) cheerleaders and who love my kids more than I could have ever imagined, and my little brother and sister in law who are so much fun, are our regular encouragement, and in a very real way my heros.

4) Two grandparents that have lived well into their nineties. Ah-ma-zing. My kids will remember four of their great grandparents and this makes me oh so happy.

5) Our extended family, our church, my lifelong friends, our new friends, our home, our country.

6) Breaks in the day to think about what I'm thankful for. A cup of hot coffee. A long run. My old dog still snoring at night. Reminders that my life is not about me.

7) My photographic obsession and this lovely little business. Thank you all for the support you've been over the past year and a half of BG Photography. I love this job and am so thankful for how you've helped me grow through this.

Love this holiday. Now it's time to eat. :)

So teach us to number our day - A personal post

So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12

Psalm 90 has been one of my favorite chapters in the Bible since I was in college. I don't know what it is exactly that draws me to it...maybe its melancholy tone, maybe the truth of the toil and heartache we feel in this life, or maybe its the fact that it sounds so desperate and hopeless for much of the psalm. The part that really gets me is that the "[years of our life] are soon gone, and we fly away."

There's something in this that really resonates with me. I'm not a depressed, pessimistic or too emotional person. But I often feel like this life is slipping away too fast and our toil and troubles are all too real. There's something in me that jumps up and wants to rebel against this heartache. I desperately search for more.

And that's when it happens. The most lovely thing takes place in the last stanza of this psalm. There's a huge juxtaposition between the toil/trouble reality and how the psalmist deals with the sad aforementioned truths of life.  After going on and on about how short and hard life is he says,

"Satisfy us in the morning with your steafast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil."

I'm so thankful that we don't have to be stuck in the mire. My heart leaps for joy that I can have peace and hope because of what Christ has done. I know that all things will be made right one day.

And I think this all plays into why I love photography. I am reminded over and over again how short life is. I know that these moments are fleeting and I think that's why I can't put my camera down...I want to keep recording life as long as I can. I know I can't relieve the moments, and I know that taking pictures doesn't make me live any longer, and I know that it doesn't change the heartache and toil that is intertwined with this life, but photography helps me to record some of the goodness that God has allowed us to experience, as a sort of foreshadowing of what is to come.

Evening with the Fam - Tucson Family Photographer

We were lucky enough to have our nieces spend the evening with us and it cooled down so we could take a few pictures outdoors. The girls desperately wanted to surprise their mother with the pics so I had to promise not to tell her until later that evening. We found a nice spot on the grass with the sun setting over their shoulders and we got a few really nice shots.

And of course we had to get a shot with the girl cousins!

We all have a beginning... Tucson Family Photographer

After a year and a half of watching my Baby Girl behind the camera I've decided to branch out and start my photography business. I'm super excited to get to do something I love, and thankful that I get to use my camera to help others hold on to their memories. This site will be used to show sneak peak and session photos, so feel free to check back in soon!  My business website (http://www.bgphotography.biz/) contains details about setting up sessions, pricing, and my portfolio.
